Margot enjoys reading, writing and playing acoustic guitar, as well as writing and recording music. She says if she weren't rowing she would be writing and recording music. Her favorite song is "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding. She likes to listen to "Straight Lines" by Sliverchair and "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC before she competes. Margot's favorite movies include "Tommy Boy," "The Shawshank Redemption" and "A Life Less Ordinary." She lists her most memorable sporting achievement as winning the Big Ten Championships for Ohio State, the first in team history. Margot began rowing after being approached by the Ohio State novice crew coach while running one night. She lists the most influential person in her life as her mother. Margot lists Assault on Lake Casitas as her favorite book and the U.S. men's double sculls winning the gold medal in 1984 as her favorite Olympic moment.
