Mary was part of the Olympic women's eight that set a world record in the heat and won a silver medal in the final in Athens, Greece. Mary enjoys snowboarding, backpacking, hiking and cross-country skiing. She would like to go backpacking in New Zealand on the Routeburn Track. Her favorite spectator sport is basketball, and she used to enjoy going to Sacramento Kings games at ARCO Arena when she lived in Sacramento. Mary's favorite movie is "Pride and Prejudice," but she said she is a closet sci-fi fan, growing up with "Star Wars," "Back to the Future" and "Star Trek." She enjoys cooking and lists Mexican food, especially guacamole, as her favorite. Mary's first concert was the Beastie Boys, who she lists as one of her favorite groups. She also likes the Black Eyed Peas and No Doubt. Mary is the youngest of four and has a twin sister that coxed at the University of California at Davis. Both Mary and her sister, Sarah, coxed their respective crews to national titles at the 2002 NCAA Championships. Mary's parents, Al and Meg, have traveled to all of Mary's international races and have been known to break out the camping gear overseas.
